So here’s the deal. Applying mineral makeup is easy but to get the best appearance, you do need to learn the proper way to work with it. Now word of warning, I am not a makeup artist however I can tell you from experience that what looks and feels the most comfortable and gorgeous to you is the right option! Before you read on, if you are a visual learner, make sure to check out my mineral makeup application video here.
First you must choose your brush. There are different brushes that will yield a different look or type of coverage. If you go for a lighter, airier brush, your skin might not need too much coverage. If you’re looking for deeper coverage, make sure you’re equipped with a tighter more dense brush. Here is a video of some examples of what might work for you. Also, word to the wise – I have generally found that the $8 brushes work the same as the big name brands. If you want to start off with a brush in the $8 range, you might be pleasantly surprised with the results! (I am sure there is a makeup artist rolling their eyes at me as we speak!).
- Moisturize your skin to make sure your skin is hydrated and does not appear dry.
- I recommend applying the primer that is made by the same brand as your mineral makeup. It is designed to work with the mineral makeup, providing a smooth canvas, while keeping your makeup binded to your skin.
- If you are using loose powder – gently tap some of the loose mineral makeup in to the lid or other clean surface.
- The first step is to gently swirl your brush in to the powder, in a circular motion. My philosophy is to start with less as you can always build up your makeup. It’s more of a hassle to start off strong and then have to work backwards.
- If you are using loose powder – after swirling, gently but firmly tap your brush over the lid/container to shake off any excess powder – be sure not to miss this step as it minimizes any fall out that might coat your bathroom counter or other surfaces.
- Then the fun part! Begin to apply the makeup on to your face by circling the brush on to your skin using a buffing action. You generally want to start with your cheeks first and be sure to use large circles. Buff, buff, buff!
- Swirl and tap again to reapply additional makeup coverage. You will need to play around a little to find out what the best kind of coverage is for you ie – how many swirls, taps and buffs you need for your face.
- Always remember to cover under your chin and blend in to your neck to avoid the dreadful makeup line that appears in the sunlight.
- Be sure to finish with a setting powder using the same swirl, tap, buff method. The setting powder will help keep your makeup in place.
- Tada – done! Then all you have to do is sit back and enjoy the compliments that will surely come your way.
